As CEO of Fortune 400 grocery retailer and distributor SpartanNash (Nasdaq: SPTN), Tony Sarsam leads 17,000 Associates serving food retailers in all 50 states as well as the U.S. military both domestically and abroad. Tony joined SpartanNash in 2020 and has since focused on building a strong People First culture as the company renews its commitment to growth, operational excellence, customer service and innovation.
With more than three decades of experience in the food industry, Tony has come to understand every side of the consumer-packaged goods business – from the plant floor to the C-suite. Before joining SpartanNash, Tony served as CEO of Borden Dairy Company and Ready Pac Foods. At Borden, he led the company through a major corporate restructuring and subsequent sale that preserved employment for all frontline Associates during a time of significant industry consolidation. His leadership at Ready Pac helped the company grow by more than 60% and establish a dominant 80% share of the complete meal salad category. Tony’s success at Ready Pac attracted great interest and culminated in the sale of the business to Bonduelle in 2017.
Prior to leading Ready Pac, Tony was President of the Nestlé USA Direct Store Delivery Company, where he created and led the world’s largest frozen direct store delivery network, serving Nestlé frozen pizza and ice cream businesses. He has also served as Executive Vice President of Sales and Operations at Dreyer’s, which was acquired by Nestlé. Tony began his career at PepsiCo, where he started as an Associate Engineer and progressed through a series of leadership roles, including Plant Manager, Director of Finance, Region Vice President for Sales and Distribution, and Group Vice President of Go to Market Strategy.
Tony is an independent director for Mission Produce, Inc. and serves on the board of four nonprofit organizations, including The Food Industry Association (FMI), The Right Place, West Michigan Policy Forum and Arizona State University Foundation.
He holds a Bachelor of Science, Engineering degree in Chemical Engineering from Arizona State University and a Master of Science in Management from Stanford. Tony resides in Grand Rapids, Mich. with his wife and children.
Djouma Barry
Senior Vice President and Chief Retail Officer
Djouma Barry joined SpartanNash as Senior Vice President and Chief Retail Officer in November 2024. He is responsible for overseeing the strategy and operations across SpartanNash’s growing retail footprint.
Djouma most recently served as Vice President, Retail Operations at Kroger. He spent the majority of his career at Target, where he progressively worked his way up from a store’s sales floor leader to an HR team leader, a Store Director, District Senior Director, Group Vice President, Senior Group Vice President, and ultimately Vice President, Process Operations overseeing 1,900 stores and $93 billion in sales across the U.S. Barry was also previously VP, Head of Strategy and Operations at Old Navy and VP, Retail Operations and Planning at Lululemon.
Barry has been a member of the Executive Leadership Council, an organization committed to increasing the number of global Black executives, for nearly seven years. He graduated from Texas State University.
Adrienne Chance
Senior Vice President and Chief Communications Officer
As Senior Vice President and Chief Communications Officer, Adrienne Chance leads the vision, strategy and implementation of SpartanNash’s approach to purpose-driven internal and external communications as well as charitable giving. She also serves as Executive Director of the SpartanNash Foundation. Adrienne joined the company in April 2021 as Vice President, Communications.
Before joining SpartanNash, Adrienne served as Senior Director of Corporate Communications for Borden Dairy Company. She also established the communications department and led internal and external communications across all five global divisions of Topgolf Entertainment Group. In 2017, Adrienne earned PR News’ Top Woman in PR Award for positioning Topgolf as a globally recognized lifestyle brand. Earlier in her career, Adrienne led B2B marketing communications and public relations for healthcare IT company T-System, Inc. and worked on the customer advocacy team at Southwest Airlines.
Adrienne earned a Bachelor of Science degree in public relations from the University of Florida and completed leadership training through the Disney Institute. She currently serves as the Chair of the Communications and Consumer Affairs Council for The Food Industry Association (FMI) and on the Board of Directors for Junior Achievement of Michigan Great Lakes.
Adrienne has been recognized as a Trailblazer in Ragan’s 2024 Top Women in Communications Awards and as a 2022 Top Woman in Grocery by Progressive Grocer.
Ileana McAlary
Executive Vice President, Chief Legal Officer and Corporate Secretary
Ileana McAlary was named Executive Vice President, Chief Legal Officer and Corporate Secretary in March 2023, overseeing the company’s legal, government affairs, compliance and aviation functions. She joined the company in November 2021 and also serves as Corporate Secretary of the SpartanNash Board of Directors and President of the SpartanNash Foundation.
Bilingual in English and Spanish, Ileana has broad-based corporate, transactional, regulatory compliance, risk mitigation and management experience across multiple industries and international markets. She was previously the Vice President, Associate General Counsel & Compliance Officer at Wolverine Worldwide. Prior to Wolverine Worldwide, she held roles at Meijer, Amway Corporation and at the Miller Johnson law firm.
Ileana earned her undergraduate degree at Grand Valley State University, attended law school at the University of Havana in Cuba, and earned her law degree at Wayne State University. She has been a Member of the State Bar of Michigan since 2003 and serves on the Board of Trustees for Davenport University. Ileana was also named a 2023 INFORUM Inner Circle Honoree.
Amy McClellan
Executive Vice President and Chief Customer Officer
Amy McClellan was named Executive Vice President and Chief Customer Officer in November 2023. She is responsible for driving sales growth in the wholesale segment and overseeing customer engagements for all national accounts, independent and chain grocers, e-commerce retailers, and the U.S. Defense Commissary Agency and military exchanges worldwide. She also oversees field merchandising, sales operations, customer service and value-added services to help SpartanNash customers succeed in the channel and communities they serve.
Amy previously served for two years as Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer, overseeing retail and distribution marketing, including insights and analytics, digital and e-commerce marketing, creative services, and OwnBrands strategies. She joined SpartanNash in 2019 when the Company acquired Martin’s Super Markets. Her passion for the grocery industry was sparked in high school when she was hired as a part-time cashier. During her 20 years with Martin’s, Amy worked in a variety of store operations roles and advanced to leadership positions in marketing, merchandising and operations.
She played a critical role in the SpartanNash acquisition of Martin’s, leading to her appointment as Division Vice President, Retail for SpartanNash. In March 2021, Amy was promoted to Vice President, Fresh Merchandising, overseeing the fresh product categories across 140+ company-operated stores and 2,100 independent customer locations.
She serves on the SpartanNash Foundation Board of Trustees and the Ohio-based Buehler’s Fresh Foods Board of Directors. She is a two-time Top Women in Grocery honoree (2018, 2020) and was recognized in 2019 as a NextGen 40 under 40 award winner by Progressive Grocer.
Amy earned her undergraduate degree in business marketing and advertising as well as her Master of Business Administration from Indiana University. In addition, she completed an executive certification program in strategic marketing management at the University of Chicago.
Jason Monaco
Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer
Jason Monaco has served as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer since March 2021, overseeing finance, treasury, internal audit, real estate and risk management for the company.
Prior to joining SpartanNash, Jason served as the CFO for New Orleans, La.-based Cornerstone Chemical Company. His extensive background also includes having served as CFO of Borden Dairy Company (2018-2020) as well as increasing executive leadership positions over 16 years with Kimberly-Clark.
He holds an MBA from The Goizueta Business School at Emory University and his Bachelor’s degree in Economics and Political Science from Knox College.
Bennett Morgan
Executive Vice President and Chief Merchandising Officer
Bennett Morgan was named Executive Vice President and Chief Merchandising Officer in September 2023, leading fresh, center store and pharmacy merchandising, category management, pricing, promotions, and master data management.
He joined SpartanNash as Senior Vice President and Chief Merchandising Officer in January 2022, having come from Amazon, where he helped launch its fast-growing, omnichannel grocery business, including opening its first physical grocery stores across the country. He served as Amazon Fresh Category Leader overseeing fresh and center store merchandising in different capacities over time.
Prior to Amazon, Bennett served as Vice President of Merchandising for Walmart China and Japan, managing all non-buying portions of the merchandising organization. His key focus areas included cost negotiations and advanced data-led capabilities in assortment, pricing and promotions. Bennett also spent several years of his career at H-E-B leading lean store operations, supply chain, manufacturing and merchandising efforts. Prior to H-E-B, he worked at Boston Consulting Group and Citibank.
He earned his undergraduate degree in economics from the University of Texas at Austin and his Master of Business Administration from Dartmouth College.
Dave Petko
Executive Vice President and Chief Supply Chain Officer
Dave Petko was named Executive Vice President and Chief Supply Chain Officer in March 2022, overseeing all aspects of SpartanNash’s supply chain, which serves company-operated stores, independent retailers and national accounts throughout the United States, as well as U.S. military commissaries around the world. He joined the company in April 2021 as Senior Vice President and Chief Supply Chain Officer, driving efficiencies and cost savings throughout supply chain and distribution operations, in addition to growing SpartanNash’s network and strengthening relationships with suppliers.
Dave previously served as Senior Vice President of Supply Chain for C&S Wholesale Grocers, driving operational efficiencies, safety, Associate engagement, customer focus and innovative problem solving throughout the supply chain. During his 11-year tenure with C&S Wholesale Grocers, he also served as Regional Vice President of Operations (2014-2019), Senior Director ES3/D2S (2013-2014), Director of Operations (2012-2013) and General Manager of two facilities (2009-2012). Dave has 25 years of supply chain and distribution logistics experience in addition to a proven track record of transformational leadership and improved customer and Associate satisfaction.
Erin Storm
Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer
Erin Storm joined SpartanNash as Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer in August 2024. She is responsible for overseeing the marketing function, including the OwnBrands portfolio, retail marketing programs, e-commerce and digital experience, creative services, shopper insights and loyalty.
Erin joined SpartanNash following an 18-year career with Kellogg’s and its spin-off Kellanova, where she was most recently the Vice President of Commercial Strategy. Prior to that, Erin held a variety of marketing roles with increasing leadership responsibility, including Vice President of Marketing. In that role, she oversaw brand and innovation across the $3 billion salty category, which includes brands such as Pringles, Cheez-It and Club Crackers. Previously, she led the Cheez-It brand marketing team, inclusive of activations like the Cheez-It Citrus Bowl. Her team’s creative has earned national awards and recognition, including an Andy Award for a 2024 Pringles Super Bowl ad.
Throughout her career, Erin has provided leadership for brands that include Froot Loops, Frosted Mini Wheats, Special K, Rice Krispies Treats, Eggo, MorningStar Farms, Raisin Bran, Frosted Flakes and Apple Jacks, among others. She earned her undergraduate degrees in marketing and finance from the University of Delaware and her Master of Business Administration from Indiana University’s Kelley School of Business.
Tom Swanson
Executive Vice President, Corporate Retail
Tom Swanson was named Executive Vice President, Corporate Retail in March 2020, leading the corporate retail business unit for all corporate retail banners and Quick Stop fuel and convenience centers. He previously served as Senior Vice President and General Manager, Corporate Retail (2018-2020), overseeing the overall strategy for the company’s 147 corporate stores in nine states to maximize SpartanNash’s expertise as a retailer and build greater connectivity with distribution customers. He also led the transition and integration of more than 20 Martin’s Super Markets into the SpartanNash family of stores.
Tom has more than 30 years of executive experience in grocery retail, including six years (2012-2018) as Vice President of SpartanNash’s Retail-West operations.
Masiar Tayebi
Executive Vice President and Chief Strategy and Information Officer
Masiar Tayebi was appointed Executive Vice President and Chief Strategy Officer in April 2021. He began serving a dual role as Chief Strategy and Information Officer in September 2022. With more than 20 years of experience, Masiar connects strategy, mergers and acquisitions, innovation and technology to drive growth and transformational change at SpartanNash.
Previously, Masiar served as Global Head of Corporate Strategy and Business Development at Whirlpool Corporation, responsible for acquisitions, including Yummly, a leading digital food platform offering online grocery delivery. After acquiring Yummly in 2017, Masiar served as Chief Operating Officer at Yummly, executing Whirlpool’s innovation growth strategy and tripling users to 23 million.
Prior to leadership roles at Whirlpool, Masiar was an Executive Director, Chief Technology Officer and Global Head of Change Management at UBS, where he focused on strategy, M&A, technology and transformational change. He also worked with various Fortune 500 clients on strategic initiatives during his time in management consulting.
Masiar holds an MBA from the University of Chicago, Booth School of Business and a bachelor’s degree in Economics and Finance from Bentley University. He was named one of the University of Chicago Booth’s Top 15 Alumni in Tech.
Nicole Zube
Executive Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer
Nicole Zube was named Executive Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer in March 2024, overseeing the HR, safety and risk functions as well as SpartanNash’s People First approach to attracting, developing and retaining a high-performance, diverse workforce. She joined SpartanNash in September 2022 as Senior Vice President and CHRO.
Prior to SpartanNash, Nicole was Head of HR for Kellogg Company’s U.S. Commercial organization across all product categories. During her 10 years at Kellogg, Nicole served in a steady progression of senior leadership roles across North America and Europe that focused on talent, culture, organizational design and business transformation. Prior to Kellogg, Nicole spent eight years in various talent acquisition and HR generalist roles at Procter & Gamble, where she supported multiple acquisitions and divestitures.
Nicole earned her bachelor’s degree from Northern Kentucky University, where she played collegiate volleyball, and her MBA from Xavier University. She currently serves on the Board of Directors for Hello West Michigan.
Nicole has been recognized as one of the 2016 Top Women in Grocery by Progressive Grocer, a 2020 and 2021 Top 10 Global Diversity HR Champion by the Global Diversity List, and the 2021 LEAD Ambassador of the Year by LEAD Network Europe. In 2024, her work at SpartanNash was recognized with a Silver Stevie® Award in the Human Resources Executive of the Year category.
